Police Chase Captures Escapee Near San Benito: One Person Killed

Brownsville- Local and state law enforcement agencies crowded with police vehicles Expressway 77
northbound early afternoon after an inmate escaped in Brownsville. The suspect, who assaulted a guard and later killed a man,
was captured in the San Benito area.
DPS troopers shot a prison escapee during a high-speed chase in Cameron County, local media cited San Benito
police chief.
Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said the inmate escaped in Brownsville and a police chase ensued along
the expressway northbound. The inmate apparently was at a clinic when he ran off after assaulting a guard. At least 3 people were
injured, according to witnesses.
Police surrounded the area near Gillman Chevrolet dealership along 77 Expressway in San Benito.
Police agencies including Brownsville Police, Cameron County Sheriff’s and DPS troopers were seen in all
kinds of vehicles including a SWAT truck heading toward the scene of the incident around 1:30 p.m.
